M3 Expressive skills compared

There are three public Material skills for coding agents. They overlap less than their names suggest. Pick by what you need: design specs, broad Material 3 coverage, or Compose code that compiles against your version.

  • You write Compose and want it to build first time: this skill. Its main value is version accuracy. For example, almost every Expressive API became stable in 1.5.0-beta02, and the skill knows that.
  • You need pixel specs, or design for several platforms: abhixv’s skill has far more design detail and images. It and this skill work well together, one for the spec and one for the code.
  • You need plain Material 3 on Flutter or web: hamen’s skill.

Section titled “What each one gets wrong (as of 2026-10-26)”

Every skill falls behind as material3 changes, including this one. Facts that were out of date when this page was written:

  • abhixv’s platform notes describe Compose Expressive APIs as experimental until 1.5.0. In 1.5.0-beta01 and beta02, most are already stable.
  • This skill covers 1.5.0-beta02. When a newer version ships, check the changelog before relying on it.
